Just right

Bushbuck peeping out; just metres off the trail

Until yesterday, we had not walked in the Moreletakloof Nature Reserve since the end of August. Then, the reserve was dry and cool enough for long pants and sleeves. Now it is spring, and the first rains have come to soften the landscape.

As we walked there was plenty of snorting and sprinting from the male buck; while the females were flirtatiously skittish, so I expect lots of little buck to appear in the not too far distant future.

Bird sounds filled the air. It was warm enough for me to empty my water bottle by the end of the 4 odd kms, but not exhaustingly hot; a succulent appetizer to the rest of the day.
